inside a server

Interactive augmented reality project about the
World Wide Web

3rd Semester, October 2020 – February 2021
Physical Computing, Unity, Processing
Inside a Server is an interactive AR application that asks its users to dive into the WWW - represented by nodes. These LED-illuminated shapes contain informations about topics that occur on the Internet: Introducted by an explanation of cookies, the volumes of data generated everyday and lastly the possibility of manipulation of elections via these data sets.
After starting the application, an luminous shape initially lights up on the wall. After visually capturing the shape on the tablet, a particle shape appears on the tablet, which represents the dissolution of the physical LED dot. This particle shape contains information that can be clicked on and experienced.
Once a node has been solved, the particle shape also dissolves completely and the next point physically lights up on the wall so that the user does not get lost “inside a server”. The application aims to convey information in a simple and exciting way by portioning increasingly complex topics using individual dots that can be discovered by the user. It’s an interplay between the physical LED wall and the digital particle application.
The development was done in Unity, the sequential lighting of the LEDs was achieved using a fadecandy (similar to Arduino) and a processing sketch. These applications in turn communicated via a locally created network and simple values to ensure the correct sequence of nodes. The shapes were cut out of a wooden panel, with the technology behind it.

Hi, nice to meet you! I'm Felicitas but you can call me Feli. Currently I started my master's in Design & Future Making at Hochschule Pforzheim.

I'm always open to learn new things and I'm thriving in a dynamic, interdisciplinary and motivated environment. Gladly, I was able to experience such environments besides university during my work at the Institute Design & Systeme in Würzburg, as well as working with the Fraunhofer IIS.

I'm fascinated by the synergy between the analog and digital worlds. This fascination drives me, as I firmly believe that digital media can support us even more in our everyday lives and in more sustainable decisions.

I'm always open for a nice chat and to connect! :)
